Bangkok warns of rabies outbreak in multiple districts
Residents urged to report suspicious animals and take immediate precautions

Bangkok officials have issued a rabies warning in multiple districts after several animals tested positive, urging residents to avoid stray animals and stay alert.
The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration’s Public Health Veterinary Office has identified a 5-kilometre alert zone around Soi Chaloem Prakiat Rama 9 Soi 49, Chaloem Prakiat Rama 9 Road in Nong Bon subdistrict, Prawet district, Bangkok.
Residents and visitors in the surrounding areas, including parts of Prawet, Suan Luang, Lat Krabang, Saphan Sung, Bang Na, Phra Khanong, and Bang Phli districts of Samut Prakan, are being urged to avoid contact with stray animals. Officials warn that both dogs and cats may carry rabies, and any interaction could pose a serious health risk.
The affected subdistricts include: Nong Bon, Dokmai, and Prawet in Prawet district; On Nut and Phatthanakan in Suan Luang district; Thap Chang in Saphan Sung; Lat Krabang in Lat Krabang district; Bang Na Nuea in Bang Na; Bang Chak in Phra Khanong; and Bang Kaeo and Racha Thewa in Bang Phli, Samut Prakan.
The Livestock Office Area 10 has declared a temporary animal disease outbreak zone from September 9 to October 8. Residents are advised to remain vigilant and report any suspicious animals to officials.
“If you are bitten or exposed to an animal suspected of having rabies, immediately wash the wound with soap and seek medical attention to receive a rabies vaccine.”

Signs of rabies in animals include restlessness, aggressive behaviour, biting objects, stiffness, excessive drooling, and a hanging tongue. Anyone who spots a dog or cat showing these symptoms, or found dead, should contact the Dog Control and Shelter (Prawet) at 02-328-7460 or 02-328-7355.
Officials emphasised the importance of community cooperation to prevent the spread of the disease. Avoiding stray animals, keeping pets vaccinated, and reporting suspected cases are key steps to protect public health.
“The outbreak serves as a reminder that rabies remains a serious concern in urban areas. Residents must follow all guidance, especially in affected districts, to ensure safety for themselves and their pets.”
Amarin TV reported that the veterinary office will continue monitoring the situation closely and coordinating with local officials to manage the outbreak. Residents are advised to stay updated through official channels and adhere strictly to the safety instructions.
