Love at first swipe: Thai man loses motorcycle in dating app scam

Another dating application scam occurred in Nonthaburi province near Bangkok at the weekend when a Thai man lost his motorcycle to a woman he met online.
The victim, 24 year old Phitchakorn Khamtan, sought help from his followers on Facebook after his red Yamaha Grand Filano went missing on Saturday, March 15. He shared pictures and a video of his motorcycle on his account along with a caption that read…
“My bike disappeared from the parking area outside an apartment on Nakhon Inn Road in Nonthaburi. The apartment is located opposite the Hyundai sales centre at the entrance to Lamudnai Temple. I lost it on March 15 at about 7pm.
The motorcycle’s left light is broken, and there is a sticker that reads ‘Family 13 Gangster’ on its body. The registration plate is 2ขช 3412 Bangkok. Anyone who spots my vehicle can reach me via 084-766-2698.”
In the post, Phitchakorn did not reveal the identity of the thief but provided further details of the crime during an interview with Channel 7. He stated that the thief was a 23 year old Thai woman named Pannarai, whom he had met on a dating application three weeks earlier.

Phitchakorn explained that he and Pannarai had met several times after chatting on the application, but he did not plan to pursue a serious relationship with her because she looked different from her online profile.
On March 15, Pannarai asked to borrow his motorcycle, claiming she needed it to attend a job interview. Feeling sorry for her, Phitchakorn agreed to lend her the motorcycle.

Phitchakorn said he waited for Pannarai to return the motorcycle at the agreed time but she did not show up. Concerned, he called her at around 9pm that day, but she did not answer, prompting him to report the theft to Bang Kluay Police Station.
Police officers contacted Pannarai’s father, but he insisted that he had not been in touch with his daughter for a long time.

A similar motorcycle theft was reported in Nonthaburi last month when a disabled Thai man lost his vehicle to a woman he had met on Facebook. She arranged to meet him at his home and disappeared with his motorcycle while he was taking a shower.
