Rain or shine, itโ€™s a โ€˜Thaiโ€™m for chills in northern Thailand

The Thai Meteorological Department (TMD) has forecasted that some regions will experience heavy rain, with the northern regions remaining cold. Bangkok is expected to have light fog in the morning. The TMD urges people in affected areas to take precautions due to the persistent cold weather.

Tomorrow, December 19, northern Thailand will see temperatures rise by 1 to 2 degrees Celsius, though it will remain cold in the north and northeast. The central region, including Bangkok, and parts of the east and upper south will experience cool mornings.

Mountain tops could see frost due to the cold conditions. Residents are advised to take care of their health and be alert to fire hazards due to dry weather.

A flood warning centre from a government ministry is cautioning that high tides will continue to impact the southern regions until December 21. In Nakhon Si Thammarat, residents are advised to prepare for potential flooding.

The TMD issued a warning of fluctuating weather, with cold and rainy conditions expected over the next 10 days, potentially affecting new year celebrations. This is due to a high-pressure system or cold air mass that has weakened over upper Thailand, the upper south, and the South China Sea.

The northeast monsoon, which is quite strong over the Gulf of Thailand and the southern regions, is also weakening. This will cause a decrease in rainfall in the south, although some areas will still experience heavy rain.

People in these regions are urged to be cautious of heavy downpours. Meanwhile, moderate sea conditions in the lower Gulf of Thailand will see waves reaching heights of around 2 metres, and more than 2 metres during thunderstorms. Mariners in the Gulf of Thailand and the Andaman Sea should exercise caution and avoid stormy areas.

In terms of air quality, the northern part of Thailand is expected to have moderate levels of dust and haze due to weakened winds and moderate ventilation. The weather forecast for Thailand from 6pm today to 6pm tomorrow is as follows:
