Thailand weather alert: 41 provinces to face heavy rain and storms

TMD urges caution with flood risk rising

The Thai Meteorological Department (TMD) has issued a weather warning for June 9, forecasting thunderstorms and heavy rain across Thailand, impacting 41 provinces, including Bangkok. Residents should be cautious of potential flash floods and sudden deluges, especially in vulnerable areas.

This weather pattern is attributed to a moderate monsoon trough passing over the upper northern region and Laos, connecting to a low-pressure area on the northern coast of Vietnam. Additionally, a strong southwest monsoon prevails over the Andaman Sea and southern Thailand.

Mariners in the Andaman Sea and the Gulf of Thailand are advised to navigate cautiously, avoiding areas with thunderstorms. Small boats in the Andaman Sea should refrain from leaving the shore.

From 6am today to 6am tomorrow, the weather forecast indicates thunderstorms in 70% of the northern region, with heavy rain expected in Mae Hong Son, Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Nan, Uttaradit, Tak, Kamphaeng Phet, Phichit, Phitsanulok, and Phetchabun. Temperatures will range from 23°C to 36°C, with southwesterly winds at 5 to 15 kilometres per hour.
