Thailand braces for thunderstorms in 32 provinces amid heatwave
Storm systems sweep across regions as officials prepare for flash floods

The Thai Meteorological Department (TMD) forecasts that over the next 24 hours, 32 provinces in Thailand will experience rain and thunderstorms.
The Bangkok metropolitan area faces particularly high temperatures, reaching up to 37 degrees Celsius. The weakening southwest monsoon covering the Andaman Sea, Thailand, and the Gulf of Thailand, combined with a low-pressure system over northern Vietnam, is contributing to these conditions.
The northern region will see thunderstorms in 30% of its area, particularly in the provinces of Mae Hong Son, Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Phayao, Nan, and Tak. Temperatures here will vary between 23 and 27 degrees Celsius as a minimum and 32 and 36 degrees Celsius as a maximum.
In the northeast, 30% of the area will experience thunderstorms, mainly in Nong Khai, Bueng Kan, Sakon Nakhon, and Nakhon Phanom. The temperatures are expected to range from a minimum of 24 to 26 degrees Celsius to a maximum of 34 to 37 degrees Celsius.
The central region will have thunderstorms in 20% of the area, focusing on Kanchanaburi, Ratchaburi, Nakhon Pathom, Samut Songkhram, and Samut Sakhon. The temperature will range from a minimum of 24 to 27 degrees Celsius to a maximum of 36 to 38 degrees Celsius.
In the eastern part of the country, 30% of the area, including Prachinburi, Chanthaburi, and Trat, will be affected by thunderstorms. Temperatures will range from 25 to 28 degrees Celsius to 33 to 35 degrees Celsius. The sea will have waves about 1 metre high, increasing to over 2 metres during thunderstorms.
The southern region, along the eastern coast, will experience thunderstorms in 30% of the area, particularly in Nakhon Si Thammarat, Phatthalung, Songkhla, Pattani, Yala, and Narathiwat. Temperatures are expected to range from 24 to 26 degrees Celsius to 34 to 36 degrees Celsius. The sea will have waves about 1 metre high, reaching over 2 metres in areas with thunderstorms.
Along the south (west coast), 40% of the area, especially Ranong, Krabi, Trang, and Satun, will face thunderstorms. Temperatures will range from 24 to 27 degrees Celsius to 33 to 34 degrees Celsius.
From Phang Nga northwards, the sea will have waves 1 to 2 metres high, increasing to over 2 metres during thunderstorms. South of Phuket, the sea will have waves about 1 metre high, with 1 to 2 metre waves in stormy areas, reported KhaoSod.
In Bangkok and the surrounding areas, thunderstorms are expected in 20% of the region. The temperature will range from a minimum of 27 to 28 degrees Celsius to a maximum of 34 to 37 degrees Celsius.
