The Thai Meteorological Department (TMD) has forecast a shift in weather patterns across the country for February 15 to February 21, with rain, strong winds, and thunderstorms expected in various regions. Northern Thailand will experience cool to cold mornings with fog, while Bangkok faces a 40% chance of rain.

Yesterday, February 15, the TMD reported a weakening high-pressure system covering the upper northeastern region. This will lead to rising temperatures, morning fog, and some areas experiencing thick fog. Though the days will be hot and hazy, the north and northeast of Thailand will still experience cool to cold mornings.

In central Thailand, the mornings are expected to be cool. The weakened northeastern monsoon and easterly winds over the Gulf of Thailand, the south, and the Andaman Sea will cause isolated thunderstorms in the lower southern region.

The Gulf of Thailand will have weak winds with wave heights around 1 metre, but areas with thunderstorms may see waves exceeding 1 metre. The Andaman Sea will have waves lower than 1 metre, with 1 metre high waves further offshore.

From February 17 to February 21, a moderate high-pressure system from China will extend over the northeast and the South China Sea. This will bring south and southeast winds, carrying moisture from the South China Sea and the Gulf of Thailand over the upper parts of the country, resulting in hot days and thunderstorms, gusty winds, and potential lightning in some areas.

The northeastern monsoon and easterly winds will strengthen to moderate levels, bringing more rain to the south. Waves in the Gulf of Thailand and the Andaman Sea will increase, reaching 1 to 2 metres in the lower Gulf and around 1 metre in the upper Gulf and the Andaman Sea. Areas with thunderstorms may see waves over 2 metres.
