Heavy rain forecast across Thailand with risk of flash floods
Flood risks rise as soaked regions brace for another wave of downpours

The Thai Meteorological Department (TMD) has issued a warning for May 19, forecasting heavy rain across 42 provinces in Thailand, including Bangkok.
The rain is expected to affect 60% of the area, with risks of flash floods and water runoffs. The Andaman Sea and the Gulf of Thailand are predicted to experience high waves.
The weather forecast for the next 24 hours suggests a decrease in rainfall, although thunderstorms and heavy rain remain in certain areas. Residents are advised to be cautious of accumulated rainfall that might lead to sudden flooding, particularly in areas near mountains or low-lying regions.
This weather pattern results from the southwestern monsoon covering the Andaman Sea and western Thailand, with weakened southeasterly and southern winds over the lower northern, northeastern, central, and eastern regions.
Sea conditions in the Andaman and Gulf of Thailand are expected to be calmer, with Andaman Sea waves approximately 1 metre high and less than 1 metre in the Gulf of Thailand.
However, areas with thunderstorms may experience waves exceeding 2 metres. Mariners in these regions should sail with caution and avoid areas prone to thunderstorms.

In northern Thailand, thunderstorms are predicted for 60% of the area, with heavy rain expected in Mae Hong Son, Chiang Mai, Nan, Uttaradit, Tak, Phichit, Phitsanulok, and Phetchabun. Temperatures range from 23 to 25°C to 33 to 37°C. The southwest winds are blowing at 5 to 15 kilometres per hour.

Temperatures are expected to be between 24 and 27°C and 34 and 36°C, with southeasterly winds at 10 to 30 kilometres per hour. The sea will have waves less than 1 metre high, but they could exceed 2 metres in stormy areas.
The western coast of the South will also be affected, with thunderstorms anticipated over 60% of the area, with heavy rain in Phang Nga, Phuket, Krabi, Trang, and Satun. Temperatures will range from 24 to 26°C to 33 to 36°C.
The southwest winds will reach speeds of 15 to 30 kilometres per hour, with waves around 1 metre high and potentially more than 2 metres in stormy conditions.
