Heavy rain and storms to affect 50 provinces across Thailand
Skies to open up today, rain forecasted across Thailand. Strong winds and flash floods imminent.

Weather forecasts for today, May 5, indicate heavy rain affecting 50 provinces across Thailand, including Bangkok. The Meteorological Department (TMD) has warned that the southern region could see rainfall affecting 70% of the area, with risks of strong winds, flash floods, and forest runoff.
The TMD advised people in the south to be cautious of heavy and persistent rain, which could lead to flash floods, especially in lowland areas and those near mountain slopes. This weather pattern results from an easterly wind wave moving through the Gulf of Thailand, the south, and the Andaman Sea, while a northwesterly wind covers the Andaman Sea.
A low-pressure system covers upper Thailand, while southerly and southeasterly winds bring moisture, affecting dust accumulation, which remains light to moderate due to rain in some areas.
The 24-hour forecast for northern Thailand predicts hot weather with 20% of the area experiencing thunderstorms and strong winds, mainly in the provinces of Mae Hong Son, Chiang Mai, Uttaradit, Tak, Kamphaeng Phet, Sukhothai, Phichit, Phitsanulok, and Phetchabun. Temperatures will range from 22 degrees Celsius (°C) to 38°C, with southwesterly winds at 5 to 15 kilometres per hour (km/h).

Temperatures will vary between 22°C and 37°C, with southerly winds at 10 to 20 km/h.
Central Thailand will also experience hot weather with thunderstorms in 30% of the area, mainly in Uthai Thani, Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya, Lopburi, Saraburi, Kanchanaburi, Ratchaburi, Samut Songkhram, and Samut Sakhon. The temperatures will range from 25°C to 38°C, with southerly winds at 10 to 20 km/h.
