The Meteorological Department of Thailand (TMD) issued a second warning about a cold spell and strong winds affecting the Gulf of Thailand from January 10 to 13. According to the weather forecast released at 5pm yesterday, January 8, a high-pressure system from China is expected to spread over Thailand and the South China Sea, causing a temperature drop and strong winds.

The north and northeast experience a decrease of 5 to 7 degrees Celsius. The central region, including Bangkok, along with the east and upper south, will see a reduction of 3 to 5 degrees Celsius.

Residents are advised to take precautions for their health due to the colder weather and potential fire hazards caused by dry, windy conditions.

The northeast monsoon over the Gulf of Thailand and the south is predicted to intensify, leading to increased rainfall and heavy showers in some areas of the southern region. The Gulf of Thailand will experience strong winds with waves reaching 2 to 4 metres, especially in stormy areas where waves may exceed 4 metres.

The Andaman Sea will have waves of 1 to 2 metres, with waves reaching 2 to 3 metres offshore in stormy conditions. Eastern residents are warned of coastal waves, and sailors are advised to exercise caution and avoid sailing in stormy areas.

Small boats in the Gulf of Thailand and the Andaman Sea should refrain from leaving the shore from January 10 to 13. The public is encouraged to follow updates from the TMD, available on their website or by calling 0-2399-4012-13 and 1182, accessible 24 hours a day.

Weather forecasts for the next 24 hours predict a slight temperature increase of 1 to 2 degrees Celsius in Upper Thailand, accompanied by morning fog. The north and northeast will experience cool to cold weather, while the central region, including Bangkok and its vicinity, the east, and the upper south will remain cool in the morning.

Mountainous and highland areas will see cold to very cold temperatures. Residents in Upper Thailand and the Upper South should maintain health precautions and be cautious of traffic in foggy areas due to the high-pressure system weakening over these regions.

Meanwhile, the northeast monsoon over the Gulf of Thailand, the south, and the Andaman Sea is expected to weaken, resulting in reduced rainfall in the South. Waves in the Gulf of Thailand will be moderate, with heights of 1 to 2 metres, increasing to over 2 metres in stormy areas. Mariners are advised to navigate cautiously and avoid stormy regions.

From January 10 to January 13, another strong high-pressure system from China will extend over Thailand and the South China Sea, resulting in cooler weather and strong winds. The northeast monsoon will strengthen, causing increased rainfall and heavy showers in some areas of the southern region.

The Gulf of Thailand will experience strong winds with waves between 2 to 4 metres, exceeding 4 metres in stormy areas. The Andaman Sea will have waves of 1 to 2 metres, with heights reaching 2 to 3 metres offshore in stormy conditions.

Air quality concerns persist in Upper Thailand due to poor ventilation and weak winds, as stated in the weather forecast for January 9.
