Cold spell and storms hit Thailand as waves surge offshore

Thailand is facing a cold spell as a strong weather system sweeps across the country, bringing falling temperatures, storms, and rough seas from north to south.

A strong high-pressure system from China is extending over the northeast and upper north of Thailand and is expected to spread further to the central and eastern regions. This weather system is bringing cool to cold conditions in the morning, accompanied by a noticeable drop in temperatures and strong winds across the upper part of the country.

In the northeast, temperatures are forecast to drop by 2 to 4°C, while in the north, central region (including Bangkok and its vicinity), and eastern provinces, a dip of 1 to 3°C is expected. Some areas in the upper country may also see isolated rain.

Residents are being urged to take care of their health due to rapidly changing weather conditions. Farmers are advised to take precautions against potential crop damage.

In the south, the strengthening northeast monsoon over the Gulf of Thailand, the southern region, and the upper Andaman Sea is expected to bring widespread thundershowers. Heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely in some areas.
