December 8 weather: Temperatures drop 3°C, strong winds sweep upper regions

A new high-pressure system from China brings cooler weather to Thailand today, causing temperatures to drop by 1-3 degrees Celsius across the upper country. Residents in the North, Northeast, Central, and Eastern regions should prepare for strong winds and cooler mornings.

The Thai Meteorological Department (TMD) issued a forecast for the 24-hour period starting today, December 8, 2025. A moderate high-pressure air mass from China now covers upper Vietnam and Laos. This system extends over upper Thailand and the South China Sea, resulting in a noticeable drop in temperature.

The North and Northeast experience cool to cold weather, while the Central region, Eastern region, and the upper South, including Bangkok and its vicinity, face cool mornings. The TMD advises the public to maintain their health during this transition to colder weather. Additionally, the dry air combined with strong winds increases the risk of fire, requiring residents to stay vigilant against potential fire hazards.

Air quality remains good in the upper country. The accumulation of dust and smoke stays at low to moderate levels because the strengthening winds help disperse pollutants effectively.

Southern region and marine conditions

The Northeast monsoon prevails over the Gulf of Thailand and the Southern region. While overall rainfall in the South remains low, isolated thunderstorms persist in some areas.

Marine conditions in the lower Gulf of Thailand show waves reaching approximately 2 meters. Areas experiencing thunderstorms may see waves rising above 2 meters. Boat operators should navigate with caution and avoid sailing into stormy areas.
