Tuk tuk crashes into timber truck in Surat Thani, driver dies

A tragic accident occurred involving a tuk tuk and a parked timber truck yesterday in Mueang Surat Thani district. The collision resulted in the death of the tuk tuk driver and injuries to seven passengers, six of whom were seriously hurt.

Police Lieutenant Thanongsilp Kayannoi from the Mueang Surat Thani Police Station received the report of the accident yesterday, January 13 at 7.05pm.

The incident took place on a bypass road near the Wipawadee Rangsit camp curve in Bang Kung subdistrict. Rescue teams were quickly dispatched to the scene to assist those trapped in the vehicle.

Upon arrival, a 10-wheel truck loaded with rubber wood, registered as 81-1299 Surat Thani, was found parked on the roadside.

A blue tuk-tuk, identified by registration number 104732 Surat Thani, had collided with the rear of the truck, leaving its front severely damaged.

The tuk tuk driver, Madzen Madadam, was pronounced dead at the scene. His body was extricated with hydraulic equipment and taken to Surat Thani Hospital for an autopsy.

The injured, including six in critical condition, were transported to Surat Thani Hospital and Thaksin Hospital for treatment.

The injured passengers were identified as 24 year old Natchai Choosong, 7 year old Anna Apichat, 8 year old Mukanda Tosaeed, 33 year old Marina Apichat, 16 year old Shamil Tosaeed, 11 year old Yanavi Tosaeed, and 75 year old Rorfiat Baitahe.

Preliminary investigations suggest the timber truck had run out of fuel and was stationary on the roadside.

The tuk tuk was en route to Tha Thong Mai subdistrict in Kanchanadit district when it failed to notice the parked truck, resulting in a rear-end collision, reported KhaoSod.

Madzen Madadam, also known as Bangzen, was a former contestant on the singing competition show Golden Microphone, having reached the semi-finals.

In related news, a collision occurred between a motorcycle and a pickup truck in Soi Nong Ket Yai, Bang Lamung district, at 5.06am on January 11, prompting a response from the Sawang Boriboon Thammasathan Rescue Centre in Pattaya.
