Truck driver dies after falling asleep and crashing into trees
An 18-wheel truck driver lost control, veered into a ditch, and crashed into trees, resulting in a fatal accident. The truck’s front was destroyed, and the 64 year old driver died at the scene, suspected of falling asleep at the wheel during a long solo journey.
Yesterday, September 23, Major Thandol Chorchun, an investigator from Cha-uat Police Station, received a report of an accident involving an 18-wheel trailer truck that lost control and crashed into trees along the four-lane Asia Road, Route 41, in Moo 4, Wang Ang subdistrict, Cha-uat district, Nakhon Si Thammarat province.
The accident resulted in one fatality. Police, including Police Colonel Somporn Nitipak, the chief investigator, an on-duty doctor, and rescue teams from Nakhon Cha-uat and Chulabhorn, were promptly notified and rushed to the scene.
Upon arrival, the responders discovered the 18-wheel trailer truck covered with a tarpaulin in the rear cargo area. The front of the truck was completely wrecked. Tragically, Pramuan Siriekha was found dead, his body severely crushed and hanging by the door on the driver’s side.
The scene was described as horrific, with Pramuan’s body trapped in the mangled metal. Additionally, the crash had caused significant damage to several large trees in the middle of the four-lane road, with four to five trees found toppled over, reported KhaoSod.
An investigation revealed that Pramuan had been driving the 18-wheel trailer truck alone, heading to Hat Yai District, Songkhla Province, to pick up goods.
As he reached the accident site, the truck lost control and veered into the ditch before crashing head-on into the trees, resulting in the vehicle’s extensive damage and Pramuan’s immediate death. Eyewitnesses following the truck indicated that Pramuan likely fell asleep at the wheel, leading to the severe accident.
