Tragic car plunge in Udon Thani canal claims three lives

A tragic accident unfolded when a car, en route to a relative’s ordination ceremony, plunged into a canal between bridges, resulting in three fatalities and two injuries. A one month old girl miraculously survived, ejected from her mother’s lap outside the vehicle. The incident occurred at 1.30pm yesterday.

Deputy Inspector Kittikawin Umathitipong of Nong Han Police Station, Udon Thani province, was notified of the accident involving a car losing control and falling into a canal beneath a bridge near the Nong Han Subdistrict Administrative Organisation on the Udon Thani-Sakon Nakhon Road in Nong Han Subdistrict, Nong Han District. Numerous casualties were reported, prompting coordination with medical teams and the Udon Thani Dhamma Promotion Foundation’s rescue team, and highway police rescue teams, reported KhaoSod.

Upon arrival, a white Honda car with Udon Thani registration plate Kas 90 was found submerged in the canal in the middle of the bridge. Inside the car was one deceased individual, and five injured individuals trapped.

Authorities promptly used cutting tools to extract the victims and urgently transported them to the hospital. The deceased was identified as 66 year old Jeeranun. The injured included the driver, 44 year old Taweevat, 33 year old Nadaporn, 41 year old Pakamas, and a one month old girl, Jariyawadee, who later died at the hospital.

Preliminary investigations reveal the car departed from a residence, heading towards a relative’s ordination ceremony in Chaiyawan District, Udon Thani province. Upon reaching the accident site, the car lost control and plunged into the canal between the bridges, resulting in three deaths and two severe injuries. The police will further investigate the driver to ascertain the exact cause of the accident.

In related news, a police officer’s vehicle skidded off the road and plunged into the Chao Phraya River near Bangkok, resulting in a frantic rescue operation. The driver of the vehicle, a Cyber Crime Investigation Bureau (CCIB) police officer, was found in a state of distress, pleading for help for his wife, presumed to be trapped inside the submerged vehicle.
