Young man arrested after fatal knife attack in Samut Prakan
A 21 year old man was taken into custody following a fatal altercation with a 16 year old. The incident, which involved a knife attack, occurred after a confrontation over perceived hostility. The suspect expressed remorse and apologised to the victim’s family.
The tragic event unfolded yesterday, December 18, at 9.46pm when police in Samut Prakan received a report of a violent dispute and stabbing in a car park in front of a shopping centre in Bang Mueang Mai. Upon investigation, the injured party was identified as a 16 year old boy, referred to as A, who suffered two stab wounds to the abdomen.
Efforts to save him involved transporting him to Paolo Samut Prakan Hospital but, despite these efforts, the boy succumbed to his injuries.
Police quickly apprehended the attacker, 21 year old Nachanon, at the hospital. He had arrived at the scene in a Toyota Alphard van.
The confrontation between the two parties reportedly stemmed from an issue over looks and aggressive body language, which led them to arrange a meeting to resolve their differences.
“I deeply regret my actions and extend my apologies to the bereaved family,” Nachanon said.
He acknowledging the gravity of his actions. He also offered a traditional Thai gesture of apology, known as a wai, to the victim’s family. Meanwhile, Nachanon’s father expressed his apologies, his voice trembling as he accepted full responsibility for his son’s actions.
The police reported that they will conduct further inquiries into the situation today and escorted Nachanon back to the crime scene for a re-enactment, a standard procedure to corroborate confessions. This took place in the presence of investigating officers, including Police Colonel Nopadol Changruean of the Samut Prakan Police Station. Nachanon’s father was also present, observing the proceedings closely, reported KhaoSod.
The entire reenactment took about 20 minutes and was conducted without any incidents of violence. Following this, Nachanon was swiftly returned to the Samut Prakan Police Station. His case is being handled by investigators who have charged him with murder and legal proceedings are set to continue.
