An ex-postal worker attacked his former manager with a machete, leading to a struggle where the attacker was fatally injured. The incident, which occurred inside a post office in Pathio District, Chumphon Province, left many questions unanswered.

The tragic event took place on the afternoon of August 8. The former employee, who had been dismissed from his job, entered the post office brandishing a machete and attacked his former manager. During the ensuing scuffle, the attacker was disarmed, tied up, and suffered multiple stab wounds. Rescue workers transported him to the hospital, but he succumbed to his injuries.

Charn, the 68 year old father of the deceased, revealed that his son, 40 year old Withaya, had been suffering from depression and had recently completed treatment. Withaya had been working at the post office for over 10 years and had only encountered problems with his current supervisor since last year. Charn mentioned that his son was well-liked by colleagues and locals, and the issues began when the new supervisor started.

“My son came to see me that morning, and had breakfast with me, but didn’t mention any problems.. He left without a word, and then I heard about the incident. It was too brutal, more than necessary.

“My son had nearly 100 stab wounds. I don’t believe one person could have done all that damage. I urge the police to clarify the situation and not leave any doubts.”

Withaya’s sister echoed similar sentiments, acknowledging that her brother was wrong to attack but questioning why the violence continued after he was subdued.

“If he was already tied up, why did they continue? My brother’s injuries suggest more than just being restrained. We’re not accusing anyone specifically, but the wounds indicate he was tormented before he died.

“His weapon was only a machete, but the wounds were from a sharp knife. It seems excessive. We need the police to investigate if others were involved.”

The investigating officer disclosed that the former manager admitted to defending himself during the attack. The manager claimed that Withaya attacked him out of anger over being fired the previous year. He acknowledged the struggle but insisted he acted alone. However, Withaya’s family remains suspicious, believing more individuals might be involved, reported KhaoSod.
