Motorcycle shooting in Samut Songkhram injures young man
A tense incident unfolded in Samut Songkhram when a young man on a motorcycle shot at a rival’s house, causing injuries but narrowly missing vital areas. Police have apprehended the suspect, who remains uncooperative.
Around 9.30pm yesterday, October 28, Phonsuda, a police lieutenant at Mueang Samut Songkhram Police Station, received a report of a shooting with injuries behind Koo Thammasatit Temple in Bang Khan Tak subdistrict, Mueang district, Samut Songkhram. She, along with other senior officers including Sayam, the police chief, and Sa-ngat, the deputy police chief, rushed to the scene accompanied by forensic officers and rescue personnel.
The location was a high-stilted wooden house situated in Moo 11, Bang Khan Tak subdistrict, next to a road near Wat Koo Thammasatit School. Bloodstains and two 9mm bullet casings were found approximately 14 metres from the house. The victim, 24 year old Kaewthong, had been shot in the left thigh and heel and was transported to Somdej Phra Phutthaloetla Hospital for treatment.
Kaewthong’s 15 year old brother recounted the frightening moments, stating that while he was in the bathroom, a PCX motorcycle slowed down near their house. He then heard three gunshots aimed at his brother, who was fortunate that a sofa absorbed much of the impact, resulting in less severe injuries.
Investigations revealed that Kaewthong had been previously arrested by Mueang Samut Songkhram Police on drug possession charges on June 27. On this particular night, he was resting at home when three bullets pierced the soft walls, striking his legs.
Initial theories suggest the altercation stemmed from a youth rivalry, prompting the gunman, identified as Game, to target Kaewthong. Detectives soon identified the suspect, who lived in the same alley.
By 11.40pm, the gunman, later identified as 28 year old Waranyu, surrendered to the police. He arrived on the same black PCX motorcycle with the registration 1กง1306 Samut Songkhram, used in the shooting, reported KhaoSod.
Forensic officers collected gunpowder residue from his hands while Waranyu denied all accusations during questioning. Police are compiling witness statements and forensic evidence to seek an arrest warrant for attempted murder.
