Man faces charges after Nonthaburi shooting incident

Aa 30 year old man, the son of an apartment owner, was apprehended yesterday following a shooting incident in Mueang district, Nonthaburi province. The incident occurred around 3.30am, yesterday, March 24, when police were informed of a shooting at the entrance of Soi Samakkhi 26.

Upon arrival at the scene, police, alongside emergency services, found a 17 year old boy, referred to as A, with a gunshot wound to the chest. The bullet had pierced his left rib cage, leaving him in critical condition. Rescue personnel provided first aid before rushing him to Phra Nang Klao Hospital for further treatment.

A’s friend, a 17 year old girl referred to as B, explained that she, A, and two other friends were waiting on motorcycles at the entrance of the soi. They were approached by Suriya, who emerged from a nearby building and questioned their presence.

An altercation ensued, culminating in Suriya firing two shots at A, one of which injured him. The group then fled into a building.

Later, at 1pm, Deputy Investigation Superintendent, Phasakorn Chaiyathiwong, and a team of investigators identified Suriya as the suspect. He was located and apprehended in his apartment room, where the police recovered a .38 calibre handgun and a spent shell casing.

Suriya confessed that he confronted the group due to the noise they were making and claimed that he was attacked, prompting him to fire in self-defence before escaping to his room.

Despite his actions, he expressed remorse, stating he did not intend for the situation to escalate and accepted responsibility for his actions.

Suriya now faces four serious charges: attempted murder, illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition, carrying a firearm in public without justifiable reason, and discharging a firearm in a populated area, reported KhaoSod.

He was handed over to investigators at Rattanathibet Police Station in Nonthaburi province for legal proceedings. Meanwhile, A remains in the intensive care unit under close medical supervision.
