Suspect’s desperate attempt to flee exposes illegal stash

A 40 year old man was apprehended by police yesterday, May 7, after attempting to evade a checkpoint in Lop Buri. Officers discovered drugs, including 595 methamphetamine pills and 17.1 grammes of crystal meth, a firearm, and ammunition in his possession.

The incident unfolded when police, led by Police Colonel Thatch Phosuwan and Police Lieutenant Vissanon Sringam, were conducting a routine checkpoint on Highway 3333 in Mueang district, Lop Buri province.

The suspect, Apichart, riding a motorcycle, exhibited suspicious behaviour prompting officers to stop him for a search. As police prepared to inspect him, Apichart tried to flee by accelerating his motorcycle.

In a swift response, officers managed to grab the back of his motorcycle, causing him to lose balance and crash. During the ensuing commotion, Apichart attempted to escape on foot but was quickly apprehended.

A search of his person and the compartment under the motorcycle seat revealed a stash of drugs and a firearm.

During questioning, Apichart confessed that the drugs and weapon belonged to him. He now faces charges of possessing a category 1 narcotic with intent to sell, driving under the influence of drugs, using a category 1 narcotic, and illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition. He has been handed over to Khok Tum Police Station for further legal proceedings.

In similar news, a white Honda Jazz fled a police checkpoint in Chon Buri’s Mueang district on January 14 at 10pm, leading to a high-speed pursuit across multiple districts.

The vehicle, registered as กต 1875 Khon Kaen, was chased by officers from Don Hua Lo and Phan Thong Police Stations.

The chase continued along Sukprayoon Road and reached a U-turn near a local temple. Despite attempts by police to stop the car by shooting its front left tire, the suspect kept driving recklessly, crashing into two motorcyclists who sustained serious injuries.

The driver abandoned the vehicle at the U-turn and ran into a dark alley, evading capture. Rescue teams from the Tri-Khunatham Foundation quickly arrived to treat the injured motorcyclists.
