Man arrested in Phetchaburi for rock attack on pickup truck

A 34 year old man was stopped by police after allegedly throwing a rock at a woman’s pickup truck while it was stopped at a red light in Phetchaburi province.

The incident, which occurred near a police checkpoint, caused significant damage to the vehicle’s window and alarmed nearby residents.

The event took place yesterday, March 2, with footage quickly spreading on social media, drawing public outrage over the reckless behaviour and disregard for the law.

The public urged police to swiftly capture the perpetrator for legal actions.

At 2am today, March 3, Police Colonel Thip Khengkhum, head of the Khao Yoi Police Station in Phetchaburi, instructed the local investigative team to track down the suspect using escape route details and CCTV footage.

The investigation identified the suspect as Panuwat, whose last name has been withheld.

Panuwat was taken into custody at the Khao Yoi Police Station, along with a motorcycle and clothing he allegedly wore during the incident.

He confessed to the crime, as shown in the circulated video, stating that his actions were driven by anger after the woman’s pickup truck reportedly cut off his motorcycle, reported KhaoSod.

Police have charged Panuwat with property damage and he will face legal proceedings accordingly.

In similar news, foreign tourists in Phuket sparked a social media firestorm after blatantly disregarding Thai law by smashing a police wheel lock with a rock in broad daylight. The brazen act occurred outside a shopping mall on Rat Uthit 200 Pi Road in Patong on January 14.

A 23-second video of the incident was shared by the Phuket Newshawk Facebook page, captioned: “A friend smashed the chain. #Don’t do it #Patong.” The clip shows a tourist using a rock to break the chain securing their motorcycle wheel, which police had locked for illegal parking.
