Jealous ex-lover triggers fatal market shooting in Nakhon Pathom
A brutal act of jealousy took place in a bustling market when an ex-lover saw his former flame with her new partner. The disgruntled man and his gang launched an attack on the new boyfriend, who later succumbed to gunshots. Police were swift to apprehend the culprits, who admitted to the crime, fuelled by unbearable jealousy.
At approximately 1.30am today, Deputy Inspector Phattaratorn Wanwong of Nakhon Pathom City Police Station was alerted by Nakhon Pathom Centre Hospital of a gunshot victim. Along with Inspector Phuphon Thapcharoen, the city’s police chief, and a team of investigators, they rushed to the scene.
Upon arrival, they found the injured man, 27 year old Likhit (surname withheld), who had been shot in the abdomen and the right lung. Doctors had to perform surgery to save his life. The incident occurred in the parking area of a local event near Phra Pathom Chedi, Nakhon Pathom District. A preliminary investigation revealed bloodstains on the ground and a 9mm shell casing nearby, reported KhaoSod.
The suspects were identified as 24 year old Tinnaphop (surname withheld), and 23 year old Jedsadakorn (surname withheld). An initial interrogation revealed that around 1am, the suspects had been hanging out at the market with two women, one of whom was the victim’s new girlfriend.
Suddenly, the victim’s ex-partner, Sakchai (surname withheld), approached them, starting an argument and physically assaulting one of the women. Sakchai and three of his friends, including the victim, then attacked Jedsadakorn. Despite Tinnaphop’s attempts to stop the fight, the victim persisted in the assault, which led Tinnaphop to shoot him with a gun he was carrying.
After the incident, the culprits fled the scene but were apprehended at a checkpoint opposite the Nakhon Pathom Provincial Livestock Office on Malai Man Road, Lam Phaya, Nakhon Pathom District. They were taken to Nakhon Pathom City Police Station for questioning.
The two suspects confessed to the shooting, saying that before the violent confrontation, the victim’s group had been confrontational and had instigated the altercation. They claimed the victim continued the assault despite their attempts to stop the fight, leading to the shooting. The motive was identified as jealousy.
