In a dazzling display of civic duty and celebration, Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin, accompanied by his wife Dr Pakpilai, immersed themselves in the magic of the Loy Krathong Festival in Sukhothai.

The dynamic duo, adorned in traditional attire, partook in the age-old tradition of launching intricately decorated floats, or krathong, onto waterbodies to honour Phra Mae Khongkha, the revered Goddess of Water.

The festivities, which kicked off on November 18 and centred around Sukhothai Historical Park in Mueang district, reached their zenith on November 27 under the full moon. His Majesty the King graced the prime minister with a Krathong, creating a spectacle that captured the hearts of onlookers.

Following this aquatic homage, the illustrious couple, joined by Deputy Prime Minister Somsak Thepsutin, revelled in a mesmerising light and sound show, illuminating the night in Sukhothai.

The Bangkok-born PM, a man of action, then shifted gears towards addressing a critical concern — the ongoing flood prevention project in the province. Venturing to Si Samrong district, PM Srettha inspected a dam construction project at a bridge crossing the Yom River. This initiative, a cornerstone in Sukhothai’s battle against river overflows, exemplifies the government’s commitment to safeguarding its citizens.

In a bid to stay well-informed, the PM’s entourage made a pit stop at Sukhothai Public Park in Mueang district. Here, provincial officials provided the latest updates on the region’s water situation, ensuring the prime minister remains abreast of the challenges faced by the community.

As the Sukhothai sojourn neared its conclusion, 61 year old Thai PM graciously received Sukhothai Football Club footballers. In a heartwarming gesture, the players presented him with a customised jersey, bearing his name and the number 30 — a symbolic nod to his historic tenure as the nation’s 30th prime minister.
