Chon Buri man arrested for threatening mother, assaulting family
A man in Chon Buri was arrested after he allegedly threatened to kill his mother, assault his son, and attempted to rape his daughter. Officials found methamphetamine in his possession.
Police and administrative officers arrested 46 year old Sornchai (surname withheld) at his home in Bang Lamung district, Chon Buri. The arrest followed a plea for help from a 64 year old woman who reported her son’s violent behaviour. The family had been living in fear due to his threats and actions.
Yesterday, October 3, officers led by Police Colonel Athapol Itthayophasakul, and Police Lieutenant Colonel Phonphrom Muangbangyung, along with Woraphop Kongthoncharat, the Bang Lamung district chief, apprehended Sornchai at his residence.
They discovered methamphetamine hidden in his bag. Sornchai was taken to Huai Yai Police Station for questioning, where a urine test confirmed drug use, indicated by the presence of purple urine.
Regarding the allegations of threatening to kill his mother, assaulting his son, and attempting to rape his daughter, Sornchai denied all charges. Medical staff from Wat Yan Hospital assessed his mental condition, noting he displayed signs of confusion and sometimes talked to himself. The medical evaluation is ongoing to determine if he suffers from any psychological disorders.
Police Colonel Athapol ordered that Sornchai be detained along with the confiscated 0.34 grammes of methamphetamine. He faces charges of drug possession and having drugs in his system.
“The family feels safer now that the suspect is in custody,” said Police Colonel Athapol. He further expressed relief on behalf of the family, stating that their lives would likely be more secure following the arrest.
Woraphop Kongthoncharat added that after Sornchai’s arrest, he would be sent to a rehabilitation camp at the 14th Military Circle. The rehabilitation process will include a thorough evaluation of his mental state. If he continues to exhibit psychological issues, further medical treatment will be arranged, reported KhaoSod.
Woraphop also urged the Chon Buri community to report any suspicious activities related to drug use or individuals showing signs of mental illness due to drug abuse. He stressed that the public should inform local police or administrative officers immediately to ensure prompt action.
