Smoke and mirrors: Cops bust fake bag shop selling e-cigarettes

Police in Chon Buri apprehended a man selling electronic cigarettes under the guise of a bag shop, seizing over 100 items. The operation was carried out by the Bang Lamung Police Station team opposite Nawong Market in Takhiantia subdistrict.

The raid, led by Police Colonel Navin Sinthurat, Deputy Superintendent of Bang Lamung Police Station Suphawat Latpreecha, and Deputy Superintendent of Investigation Kornphong Sukwisit, was part of a national crackdown on electronic cigarettes due to their impact on public health, particularly among youth.

At this unnumbered shop across from Nawong Market, police confiscated 171 items, including disposable and refillable electronic cigarettes, along with 120 e-cigarette liquid cartridges.

Police detained 54 year old Charun Sriphueangchan and seized over 100 items as evidence. He faces charges related to the concealment and sale of untaxed goods, specifically electronic cigarettes, violating customs procedures and restrictions, reported KhaoSod.

The suspect had been operating a bag shop as a front to sell the illegal products, attempting to evade law enforcement but was ultimately unsuccessful. The seized items and the suspect have been handed over to the Bang Lamung Police Station for legal proceedings.

In similar news, a police operation in the Huai Khwang district resulted in the arrest of a man and woman involved in selling electronic cigarettes illegally. Police Colonel Worawit Yanchinda led the operation on February 24, resulting in significant seizures of the illicit goods.

Police officers, including Police Colonel Phitak Suthikul, Police Colonel Korakot Pochayawanich, and Police Colonel Denla Rattanakit, orchestrated the raid on a condominium in Huai Khwang.

They detained 31 year old Adithep and 27 year old Inthira, seizing 402 disposable e-cigarettes, 10 e-cigarette devices, and 1,600 e-cigarette liquid cartridges.

Investigations revealed that Adithep and Inthira had been selling these products online through a LINE group named Lay Hom Hom.

Additionally, Adithep, employed at a well-known entertainment venue, sold these products directly to customers. The police tracked their location, leading to the raid and subsequent arrest.
