Qatar Airways issued a statement following an incident where a passenger was seated next to a dead woman for four hours during a flight.

The airline emphasised that the crew acted promptly and appropriately, and compensation along with psychological support has been provided.

This situation arose from an Australian couple’s account to their local television station, criticising Qatar Airways’ cabin crew for placing the body of a woman who had suddenly died next to them on their flight from Melbourne to Doha. They described the ordeal as their worst experience.

In response, Qatar Airways expressed profound condolences to all affected by this tragic event and extended support to the family of the deceased passenger. The airline acknowledged that while such losses are undesirable, sudden deaths can occur during flights, a reality within the aviation industry.

The cabin crew undergoes rigorous training to handle such situations with the utmost respect and dignity for the deceased.

Following a thorough internal investigation, Qatar Airways concluded that the crew acted swiftly, appropriately, and professionally throughout the incident, adhering to industry training standards and guidelines. Other passengers were allocated new seats, and the crew remained with the deceased passenger until the flight landed in Doha, reported KhaoSod.

The airline has contacted the family of the deceased directly, as well as other affected passengers, providing compensation and psychological support to those involved.

Last year, a Muay Thai boxer recounted his near-death experience when he and other passengers were stranded for three hours on a Qatar Airways flight from Greece to Qatar, even though a fire broke out at the back of the aircraft.

The Muay Thai boxer, known as Thananchai Sit Song Phi Nong, visited the city of Patras in Greece to participate in the IFMA World Muaythai Championships.
