Phuket monkey steals French tourist’s phone, takes selfie (video)

A French tourist shared a hilarious TikTok video of a monkey in Phuket snatching her mobile phone and taking a selfie video. Fortunately, some Thai locals successfully helped them retrieve the phone.
The French TikTok user @justinefortemps shared the video on Friday, February 28, with the caption “Monkey Hill Attack.” The footage showed a monkey, believed to be a young one, holding a bright blue phone with its right front paw.
The monkey kept looking at the mobile phone and its owner, a French TikToker in pink clothing, before running away into a tree. The French tourist was worried about the phone but could not help laughing at the monkey’s antics.
The video also included a selfie video taken by the monkey. The animal recorded its face and even switched the camera to film its surroundings before the phone was retrieved. Three Thai men were seen helping to recover the device from the monkey.
At the end of the video, the French victim was seen sitting on the footpath and laughing while one of the monkeys, though it was unclear whether it was the same one, pulled her hair from behind. A Thai man in a red shirt intervened to chase the monkey away before it could harm her.

The French TikToker even used the monkey’s selfie as her profile picture. The video captured the attention of Thai TikTok users, generating a wave of humorous comments…
“OMG, your profile!”
“Is this The White Lotus Season 3?”
“The monkey wants to go viral on TikTok.”
“The monkey did its make-up, waiting for the selfie video. It even put on light green eyeshadow!”
“The monkey is actually good at taking videos.”
“She didn’t post the video, the monkey did.”

Kapook reported that the incident occurred at Khao Toh Sae in Phuket’s Ratsada sub-district. This tourist attraction is well known for its beautiful sunset viewpoint and as a perfect spot to see monkeys and squirrels.

The two French tourists were lucky to recover their belongings and were uninjured, unlike a Swedish tourist who visited the famous Phra Prang Sam Yot temple in Lop Buri in January. He was bitten by a monkey and was immediately rushed to hospital for treatment and vaccination after the attack.
