A mother refused to claim her son’s body after police fatally shot him during a violent rampage. The man, armed with a knife, attempted to rape his sister and threatened to burn down their house before being subdued by the police.

Police Colonel Chakaj Tiamwong, Deputy Commander of Udon Thani Provincial Police, inspected the scene at Ban Non Phak Hom in Wang Sam Mo District, Udon Thani. The incident began when the man, 28 year old Kritsana, went on a rampage, attempting to rape his sister and setting their house on fire.

Police intervened but Kritsana, armed with a machete, tried to attack the officers. He was shot in the chest and later died from his injuries.

The house where the incident took place is a traditional elevated wooden home. Kritsana had barricaded himself on the upper floor. When the police arrived, they tried negotiating with him to come down but he refused.

The officers used pepper spray and rubber bullets, which had no effect. Kritsana then charged the police with the machete, forcing them to shoot in self-defence.

The family, particularly the mother and sister, expressed relief despite the tragic end. They had been living in fear due to Kritsana’s history of drug-induced violence, which began when he was 18 years old.

He had repeatedly attempted to rape his sister and threatened to burn the house down on multiple occasions. The police had been called several times to intervene.

The mother has decided not to claim Kritsana’s body for funeral rites, stating that she would rather give the body to a foundation. Following the police’s fatal shooting, she expressed her unwillingness to perform traditional funeral rituals, indicating the depth of her distress and the severity of Kritsana’s actions.

Deputy Commander Chakaj confirmed that the police received a call from Kritsana’s mother, reporting that her son was on a drug-fuelled rampage, attempting to rape his sister and preparing to attack villagers with a sharpened knife. The police responded swiftly, but the situation escalated, leading to the fatal shooting due to Kritsana’s aggressive behaviour.

Kritsana had a criminal record, having been recently released from prison just three months ago for raping a minor. On the day of the incident, he had consumed 18 methamphetamine pills, which triggered his violent outburst. After failing to rape his sister, he began to set the house on fire, prompting his mother to call the police, reported KhaoSod.

Following the shootout, the family decided not to take Kritsana’s body for any rituals. They handed it over to the police, who then transferred it to a foundation. The mother only requested to keep her son’s bones and thanked the police for their handling of the situation.
