Tragic Phuket crash: Man killed as car overturns

A 30 year old man lost his life in a horrific late-night crash after his car flipped and smashed into a roadside barrier in Wichit, Phuket, early yesterday morning.
Wichit Police were alerted to the accident at around 2.30am, yesterday, February 17, near the Bangchak petrol station on Mueang Chaofa Road, a key route linking Prince of Songkla University’s Phuket campus with Chao Fa West Road.
Emergency responders arrived to find a mangled red Mazda 3 sedan, its front and driver’s side crumpled from the impact. Trapped inside was the unconscious driver, who had suffered severe head trauma.
Rescue workers from the Kusoldharm Foundation used special equipment to extract him from the wreckage but despite their efforts, he was already dead.
The victim was identified as Patiphat Phonhiran, a resident of Thung Song district, Nakhon Si Thammarat province. His body was transferred to Vachira Phuket Hospital, where forensic experts will conduct an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death, reported The Phuket News.
Police have notified Patiphat’s relatives for religious rites, while police investigate the cause of the crash, examining factors such as speed, road conditions, and driver fatigue.
In similar news, a fatal accident occurred on the Mahanakhon Expressway in Bangkok on Christmas Day last year, when a car crashed into the rear of a six-wheel truck equipped with a crane for streetlight repairs. The impact caused the vehicle to overturn, killing the driver at the scene.
The crash took place near the Lumpini toll booth, opposite the Tobacco Factory in Khlong Toei District. Police and emergency responders, along with Poh Teck Tung Foundation volunteers, rushed to the scene.
The wreckage of a white Honda Brio Amaze, registered in Nakhon Ratchasima, was found overturned with its wheels facing skyward. The impact had ejected the engine, severely damaged the roof, and scattered debris across the expressway.
Rescue workers discovered the body of the driver, a man estimated to be between 30 and 40 years old, trapped inside. His remains were extracted using specialised tools, but no identification documents were found.
