Thailand aims to host InterPride World Conference 2025
Thailand is reaffirming its commitment to LGBTQIA2S+ rights and preparing to bid for the InterPride World Conference in 2025, with further aspirations to host WorldPride in 2030.
The Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau (TCEB) held an event titled Thailand Announcement — Unity in Action: Thailand’s Next Steps in Equality to celebrate the passing of the Marriage Equality Bill and to highlight the government’s ongoing dedication to gender equality.
Former Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin delivered a keynote speech, Towards Equality and Unity: Announcing Thailand’s Advancements in Marriage Equality Legislation and Readiness to Host WorldPride, emphasising the government’s long-term goal to promote gender equality and create an inclusive society for both Thai LGBTQIA2S+ individuals and the global community.
The government is also strengthening the tourism sector to support these initiatives. Efforts are underway to establish the Asia Pride Alliance, fostering regional collaboration for LGBTQIA2S+ rights and strategic partnerships across Asia.
Thailand is positioning itself as a leader in the advancement of LGBTQIA2S+ rights, both regionally and globally. The country will propose Phuket as the host city for the InterPride World Conference in 2025, marking a significant step towards the Road to WorldPride 2030 campaign.
Chiruit Isarangkun Na Ayuthaya, TCEB President, stated that Thailand has consistently upheld the rights of its Pride community.
“We proudly reaffirm our readiness to bid for the InterPride World Conference in 2025. Additionally, we aspire to host WorldPride in 2030. This marks a significant milestone in our journey to becoming a global LGBTQIA2S+ destination and a champion of diversity.”
At the local level, the government is empowering communities through collaboration with InterPride member organisations and allied agencies. Regionally, the kingdom is being positioned as a leader in Asia’s push for gender equality and diversity.
On a global scale, Thailand is promoting itself as a safe and welcoming destination for international events by showcasing its pride-friendly facilities and continuous efforts to foster inclusivity, reported Bangkok Post.
The acronym LGBTQIA2S+ includes lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and trans, queer and questioning, intersex, asexual or agender, and two-spirit individuals.
