A high-speed rampage through Thalang district has left Phuket residents in shock after a pickup-driving mother smashed into multiple vehicles before fleeing the scene, leaving behind her terrified three year old son.

The dramatic series of crashes began in front of a fresh market in Thepkrasattri, where municipal officers witnessed a pickup truck colliding with several vehicles and motorcycles.

The driver, later identified as 33 year old Nira Chusen, first crashed into a car near Lotus Express Thalang before hitting a motorcycle ridden by a foreign female tourist near Big C in Baan Bang Jo, Srisoonthorn.

A municipal officer chased the truck on a motorcycle, desperately trying to break its window to rescue the child trapped inside.

Despite his efforts, the vehicle continued for another 100 metres, hitting another motorcycle before coming to a stop near Bang Maruan pond due to a flat tyre.

Locals rushed to the scene, managing to safely remove the boy, just as Nira vanished into thin air.

Nira’s husband, 34 year old Baramee Khummuangthong, who was riding in the back of the pickup, claimed the incident stemmed from a domestic dispute over household expenses.

“I had just dropped off our older child at school when my wife became upset. She drove off, and I jumped onto the back of the truck because our younger son was inside. I tried everything to stop the car but she kept driving.”

Phuket police confirmed that Nira has been receiving treatment for depression for two years and remains at large, reported The Phuket News.

“I want to apologise to everyone affected. I never wanted this to happen,” Baramee said.

Police are actively searching for Nira, while the rescued child remains safe but traumatised from the ordeal.

In similar news, a head-on collision between a Toyota minivan and a sedan on Phahon Yothin-Wat Thua Thong Road in Pathum Thani’s Sam Khok district left 14 people injured. Emergency crews used hydraulic tools to free trapped passengers before transporting them to nearby hospitals.
