Temple turmoil: Thai teens attack as fair turns into a video nasty
A temple fair in Pathum Thani turned into a scene straight out of a violent video nasty when a group of teenagers launched a brutal attack on a rival, leaving chaos in their wake.
The violent altercation, which erupted around 10pm, yesterday, February 13, saw gunfire and knife violence break out before the culprits sped off on motorcycles.
Police and emergency services swiftly descended on Wat Sra Bua in the Khlong 11 of Bueng Nam Rak, Thanyaburi district, where they discovered 16 year old Theerapat Pratumta, known to his friends as “Phai,” lying wounded.
The young victim suffered a gunshot to the left side of his chest and a deep cut on his right elbow, as panicked fairgoers tried to put a halt to the violence.
The assailants, reportedly yelling “Don’t act tough!” before making their getaway, fled the scene on a yellow and black Honda MSX 125 motorcycle, with three riders seen aboard. Theerapat was hurriedly rushed to Thanyaburi Hospital for urgent medical treatment.
Theerapat’s friend, Kai, shed light on the backstory to this vicious attack, recounting an earlier confrontation with the local teenage gang at a coin-operated car wash.
Months of brewing animosity had led to motorcycle chases and heated verbal spats. Their fateful rendezvous at the temple fair reignited tensions, culminating in the bloody assault, reported KhaoSod.
One vendor at the fair recounted the chilling moment she witnessed the group loitering with intent in an alley.
“I heard a gunshot. One of the teenagers was shot and slashed, before collapsing to the ground.”
Not stopping there, the attackers mercilessly kicked the defenceless teen before darting off, leaving bystanders shaken and seeking cover.
A police spokesman told local reporters that the investigation continues and they intend to catch the reckless gang before they strike again?
