Krabi man caught with over 6,000 meth pills at Phuket checkpoint
A significant drug bust unfolded as a 41 year old Krabi resident was arrested at a primary checkpoint leading to Phuket. The arrest occurred early yesterday morning, December 11, when police discovered a substantial stash of methamphetamine (meth) pills concealed in the man’s vehicle.
The suspect, Wutthachai Klapkhong, was detained at a Phuket Chatchai Checkpoint following a search of his Toyota Yaris sedan, which was registered in Phuket. Officers found 6,049 meth pills and 167.33 grammes of crystal meth, or Ice, hidden in the engine compartment near the left wheel arch.
Wutthachai now faces serious charges, including possession with intent to sell and distribution of Category 1 narcotics, specifically meth and crystal meth for commercial purposes. He is also charged with drug use while driving.
Officers believe that Wutthachai’s activities were aimed at distributing these drugs to the public, a direct breach of Thai narcotics laws.
“The arrest is part of an ongoing effort to crack down on drug distribution networks operating in the region.”
Following his arrest, Wutthachai and the seized drugs were transported to Thachatchai Police Station, where legal proceedings will continue.
The police are actively pursuing further investigations to ascertain whether Wutthachai acted alone or if a wider network is involved in this drug trafficking operation, reported Phuket News.
In related news, Phuket police have apprehended a local man following the discovery of a significant cache of drugs in his possession.
The 34 year old Thai man was found with over 2,000 meth pills and nearly 200 grammes of crystal meth. The arrest took place in front of a rental room located in Soi Thiam Pracha Uthit, Village 1, Ratsada district, Phuket.
In other news, five individuals were apprehended by police in Pathum Thani‘s Lam Luk Ka district, where a significant cache of 6.4 million meth pills was discovered, poised for distribution to southern regions.
