Couple arrested in Phatthalung drug bust, mother’s shock revealed
A dramatic drug bust in Phatthalung province saw police arrest a couple involved in drug trafficking, leaving the woman’s mother in shock. The incident unfolded when police raided a house in Ban Khok Chang, Pak Phayun district, uncovering significant evidence of drug dealing.
The operation was led by Yotapol Rungsawat, 434th Border Patrol Police Company Commander, in collaboration with the Pak Phayun Police.
During the search, police apprehended Wutthiphong and Sucharat, a married couple, and discovered 182 methamphetamine pills, 2.39 grammes of crystal methamphetamine, drug paraphernalia, and numerous drug packaging bags. In addition, they seized a Honda City car and a motorcycle from the premises.
The couple faces charges of jointly distributing a category one narcotic and illegal possession and use of methamphetamine, a reporter said.
“While police were conducting the raid, Sucharat’s mother was overwhelmed with emotion upon learning the news. She collapsed in tears outside the house and fainted, requiring police officers to administer first aid.”
Wutthiphong confessed that he had been released from prison only six months ago after serving time for a drug-related offense. After his release, he began a relationship with Sucharat, and they started selling methamphetamine and crystal meth together, reported KhaoSod.
The profits from their illicit activities were managed by his wife, Sucharat, until their eventual arrest by the police.
In related news, the Office of the Narcotics Control Board (ONCB) and the Immigration Bureau arrested a South Korean man in the Isaan province of Khon Kaen for overstaying his visa and trafficking drugs from Thailand to South Korea.
Thai officials were instructed to withdraw visas and deport two South Korean nationals under an International Criminal Organisation (INTERPOL) Red Notice. The two suspects are believed to have entered Thailand to smuggle drugs back to their home country.
ONCB and immigration officers arrested one of the suspects on July 28 in Pattaya. The South Korean national overstayed his visa by 286 days – approximately nine months. He was subsequently deported on November 5 to face further legal proceedings in South Korea.
