Foreign tourist jumps from moving tuk tuk in Phuket (video)
A foreign tourist jumped out of a moving tuk tuk on a road in the Patong area of Phuket yesterday, February 20. Details of his injuries and the reason behind his actions have not been reported.
Phuket Hotnews shared dashcam footage of the unexpected jump yesterday. The incident occurred as a red tuk tuk travelled from the Patong area towards the centre of the Kathu district on the road over Patong Hill.
In the video, the foreign man was seen sitting near the door of the tuk tuk. He first leaned out of the vehicle and waved at a motorist driving behind the tuk tuk.
The man then extended his leg out of the vehicle and shook it until his shoe fell onto the road. Moments later, he jumped out of the moving vehicle.
Although he initially attempted to maintain his balance and stand, he ultimately collapsed and rolled to the side of the road.
The tuk tuk driver stopped approximately 100 metres from the spot where the man jumped. The video ended there, as the motorist recording the footage did not stop to check on the tourist and continued driving.
It was clear the foreign tourist intentionally jumped from the tuk tuk but the motive behind his actions remains unclear.
One possibility is that he extended his leg out of the vehicle for amusement and accidentally dropped his shoe, prompting him to jump out in an attempt to retrieve it.
However, if he intended to recover his shoe, it would have been far safer and more sensible to ask the tuk tuk driver to stop and walk back to pick it up.
A similar incident occurred in the southern province of Ranong, where a Thai woman jumped out of her boyfriend’s moving pickup following an argument. She sustained a neck fracture and later succumbed to her injuries.
In another case, a Thai man jumped out of a moving car in Pattaya after attending the Rolling Loud hip-hop music festival with his girlfriend.
His girlfriend’s mother, who was driving the vehicle, expressed shock at the incident. She said she had no idea what prompted his actions and was uncertain whether it stemmed from a conflict with her daughter.
