Another brawl on Soi Bangla: Drunk tourists throw punches

Locals demand stricter enforcement as late-night clashes become routine on Phuket’s wildest party strip

In yet another chaotic display of tourist mayhem, a video of a drunken street fight between foreign visitors on the notorious Soi Bangla has gone viral, raising fresh concerns over alcohol-fuelled violence in Thailand’s party capital.

The footage, posted by Facebook user Kim Wan today, May 7, captures a short but intense scuffle between intoxicated tourists in the early hours of yesterday, May 6, around 3.30am, in Patong subdistrict, Kathu district, Phuket.

In the 20-second clip, a foreign man in a white shirt is seen throwing punches at another man, also dressed in white. Moments later, a third tourist in a black shirt intervenes, pushing the aggressor away in an attempt to defuse the situation. But the troublemaker springs back up, clearly not ready to call it a night, and tries to charge back in before being shoved away again.

Speaking to local reporters, the original poster said he had no idea what sparked the fight, but witnessed the man in white repeatedly attempting to provoke the others.

“The group that pushed him seemed to want to avoid hurting him, but he wouldn’t back down.”

The clash is just the latest in a string of boozy brawls among foreign tourists in the area. According to locals, these alcohol-fuelled confrontations happen almost nightly, often spiralling out of control in the absence of police intervention.

“Sometimes officers show up and haul them off to Patong Police Station to cool down,” the witness added. “But other times, they just fight and then walk away like nothing happened.”

Phuket police have long struggled with managing nightlife behaviour, particularly in high-traffic tourist zones like Soi Bangla, where bars stay open into the early morning hours and binge drinking is common, reported The Phuket News.

As videos like this continue to circulate online, questions are growing about safety, enforcement, and reputation. Is the island paradise losing control of its party scene?
