Thai man cites niece’s alleged abuse in murder of her husband
Killer says he takes revenge on behalf of his relative

Police arrested a Thai man for the murder of his niece’s husband at a durian plantation in the southern province of Nakhon Si Thammarat. He confessed to taking revenge on behalf of his niece, who was repeatedly abused by her husband.
Officers from Thasala Police Station responded to the death of 47 year old Thai man, Somchai, at the durian plantation in the Thasala district on the evening of Monday, May 5. Somchai suffered a gunshot wound to the left side of his body and a stab wound to the right.
At the scene, Somchai was still wearing a head torch. A knife was found near his body, and two durian trees were cut down.
Further investigation revealed that the plantation belonged to Somchai’s wife. The couple jointly managed the plantation but reportedly experienced a conflict, possibly prompting Somchai to cut down the trees. The details of the dispute remain under investigation.
Police questioned Somchai’s wife, who denied any involvement in the killing. She claimed to have heard gunfire at around 8pm that night, although police did not receive a report of the incident until around 11pm.

Officers suspected the perpetrator was likely someone close to Somchai or his wife. Eleven of the wife’s relatives were summoned for questioning, and all denied any knowledge of the incident.
Continuing their investigation, police identified 59 year old Jaroon, the uncle of Somchai’s wife, as the prime suspect. His durian plantation adjoined the crime scene. He was summoned for further questioning last night, May 6.
Jaroon initially denied the allegations but ultimately confessed after police presented CCTV footage showing him leaving his house through a back door, wearing a hat to conceal his identity and carrying a gun on his shoulder.

Upon seeing the footage, Jaroon admitted to the murder. He stated that he acted out of rage after his niece contacted him to express despair over the alleged abuse she had suffered at the hands of Somchai.
Jaroon revealed that he had planned the murder and had instructed his niece to leave her home on the night of the incident. He then entered the property and exited through the back door to carry out the killing.

Despite Jaroon’s confession, police continued questioning other family members to determine whether anyone else was involved in planning the murder.
Somchai’s funeral was held at a local temple near his residence. His relatives told Channel 7 that he had previously sent a farewell message to the family, saying he feared someone might kill him, and his fears ultimately came true.
