A local Thai woman lost her life after being struck by a car on a perilously dim road beneath a darkened overpass in Bang Lamung.

At 10.06pm, Tuesday, February 11, the Sawang Boriboon Thammasathan Rescue Centre received a chilling report of a fatal collision on the notorious stretch of Highway 331, heading towards Sattahip, in Chon Buri province’s Bang Lamung district. Rescuers swiftly joined forces with the Bang Lamung police to rush to the scene.

In the shadows, they came across a blue Mitsubishi Lancer, its front battered and bruised from the impact. The driver, 45 year old Komsan, stood by, awaiting the moment to recount his harrowing experience to the authorities.

Tragically, just metres away, lay the lifeless body of 50 year old Issaree Khampongphawat. Her remains were respectfully cloaked in a white sheet before being transported to a local hospital.

Komsan recounted the fateful night, explaining that he was simply making his way home. The sinister stretch was poorly lit, and he only noticed someone sprinting across the road at the last moment under the overpass.

Unbeknownst to him, Issaree was trailing behind and he didn’t see her until it was tragically too late to stop. He promptly alerted the local authorities to the dreadful incident.

A close friend of Issaree revealed that they were heading to the annual fair at Pong Saked Temple. While the friend wisely chose to use the overpass, Issaree, tragically mistaken in her belief that the road was clear, dashed across.

“We never imagined such a heartbreaking event would unfold,” the friend lamented, still reeling from the shock of the disaster.
