Arrest made in Chon Buri domestic violence case involving firearm threats to wife and child
In the Khao Mai Kaeo region of Thailand’s Chon Buri province, a 53 year old man was arrested following a domestic violence incident involving his wife and child and a firearm. The alarming event unfolded in a rental room within the Ban Phu Sai Village, Khao Mai Kaeo sub-district, Banglamung district, at approximately 7pm on December 3.
The police were informed by the 43 year old victim, referred to as Ms A to protect her identity, that her spouse, known as 53 year old Weeraphon had been consuming alcohol throughout the day. This led to his inebriation and consequently, a heated argument between the couple. Weeraphon is said to have locked their one year old son in a room amidst the dispute.
As the child’s cries intensified, Weeraphon allegedly escalated the situation by procuring a gun and threatening to use it on the child. Fearing for her child’s safety and her own, Ms A sought help from their neighbours. Upon receiving the distress call, the neighbours promptly alerted the police, who arrived swiftly at the scene.
The police seized Weeraphon along with the firearm found in the room. Following his arrest, Weeraphon was taken to the Banglamung Police Station. He is now facing charges of assault and threats with a firearm. Fearing for her and her child’s safety, Ms A sought assistance from her neighbours, informing the police about her concerns of domestic violence, reported The Pattaya News.
The neighbours’ quick thinking and immediate action led to Weeraphon’s arrest, potentially averting a dangerous situation. Their response underscores the crucial role bystanders can play in ensuring the safety of their communities.
This incident serves as a grave reminder of domestic disputes escalating to dangerous levels, often fuelled by substance abuse. It brings to light the importance of prompt reporting and quick response to such situations to protect the victims involved.
