A 28 year old Thai man was recently arrested by Banglamung police while in possession of an allegedly stolen motorbike. Interestingly, upon his arrest, he attempted to feign mental illness as a means of evasion.

The intriguing sequence of events culminated on November 6, following a report lodged with the Banglamung police four days prior on November 2. The complainant, whose identity is currently undisclosed, reported the theft of their red and white Honda Wave 125i motorbike from the B Village in the Thung Krad area of Banglamung.

In response to this complaint, the police in Pattaya initiated an investigation, with the primary lead being the CCTV footage that captured the theft. As they delved deeper into the matter, it was discovered that Sittichai Chansa had been implicated in another crime.

He reportedly fled two petrol stations in Sri Racha without paying after filling up three 30-litre containers with petrol. The total value of the stolen fuel was around 2,700 baht. What further connected these seemingly unrelated incidents was the stolen red and white Honda Wave 125i motorbike. It was the very same vehicle that Sittichai had been using to commit his petrol thefts, reported The Pattaya News.

The breakthrough in the case happened on November 6 when Banglamung police tracked down Sittichai to a small wooden shelter located in the Thung Sukhla sub-district of Sri Racha. There, they found the stolen Honda Wave 125i motorbike. However, when confronted with the evidence, Sittichai chose to remain silent.

Instead, he gave the impression of being mentally ill, speaking incoherently and avoiding any form of logical conversation, seemingly in a calculated attempt to dodge arrest.

The Banglamung police, however, were not swayed by Sittichai’s act. They maintained that they had solid evidence against him and were determined to carry out the full extent of the law. At the time of reporting, Sittichai remains under police custody.

Further investigation has also revealed that he does not suffer from any mental illness, confirming suspicions that his actions were merely a defensive ploy.
