Sloshed and splashed: Tipsy Thai man makes waves in Pattaya
Pattaya officials sounded the alarm yesterday after a booze-soaked escapade by a local Thai man made waves in front of the Amari Hotel.
The drunken Thai man, clearly under the influence, took a less-than-graceful plunge into the sea, leaving onlookers in disbelief.
Pattaya City municipal officers dashed to the scene, only to find the soggy thrill-seeker showing all the signs of one too many tipples. With safety top of mind, they swiftly urged him to haul himself out of the water, citing the perils of a drunken dip.
Officials seized the opportunity to warn both locals and holidaymakers about the hazards of swimming while under the influence of alcohol, underscoring the vital importance of staying sharp and sensible near water, reported Pattaya Mail.
Drowning incidents in Pattaya are all too common, with or without the influence of alcohol.
Only last month a tragic incident unfolded as police in Pattaya City responded to reports of a drowning at Pattaya Beach, close to Soi Beach Road 3. A 54 year old Russian tourist was discovered face down in the water.
Despite swift efforts by bystanders and police to administer CPR, the woman, who had been submerged for a significant amount of time, could not be revived.
Athit Chinrat, a 43 year old squid fisher, witnessed the distressing scene. He recounted seeing the tourist earlier, enjoying herself in the shallow waters. Upon his return, he found her lifeless in the sea and immediately sought help.
In related news, two young children drowned at Laem Son Beach in Prachuap Khiri Khan on January 1. Despite efforts from family and onlookers, the children succumbed to the sea’s strong waves and later died in hospital.
Around 7pm yesterday, December 31, police were alerted to the drowning incident at Laem Son Beach, Pak Phraek subdistrict, Bang Saphan Noi district. The beach, stretching about 800 meters, became the scene of a desperate attempt to save an eight year old boy and a nine year old girl.
