A heated argument between a police officer and his wife in Uthai Thani province escalated, resulting in the officer being accidentally shot. He was found lying in front of a som tum shop near the traffic centre.

Officers from the Khao Bang Kraek Police Station received a report yesterday, August 26, at 8.30pm about an officer who had been shot and was lying in front of a som tum shop on the Thung Na-Ban Rai road, opposite the Khao Bang Kraek traffic centre in Uthai Thani province.

Senior officers, including Police Colonel Luk Rattanathaworn and Police Lieutenant Colonel Nopparat Puanoy, along with an investigation team, quickly arrived at the scene.

At the location, they found an Isuzu pickup truck with the registration number บฉ 6627 Uthai Thani, parked with its headlights left on and both doors locked. The front right tyre was blown out, showing signs of being driven on while flat. Inside the vehicle, a police uniform was hanging, identified as belonging to 40 year old Manchai from Karung Police Station.

Blood was found on the seat, and the injured officer had already been taken to Nong Chang Hospital in Uthai Thani by local emergency responders. He had sustained a gunshot wound above his left abdomen and was later transferred to Uthai Thani Hospital for further treatment.

Eyewitness

A vendor from the nearby som tum shop reported that the injured officer had driven from Ban Rai. As he approached the traffic centre, the vehicle crossed lanes and stopped in front of the centre. The officer then exited the vehicle and lay down near the shop’s sign. A man, presumed to be his son, ran from the vehicle into the traffic centre to seek help.

Reporters later visited the incident location in Moo 8, Sukh Ruethai, Huai Khot district, Uthai Thani province, where police investigators from Karung Police Station spoke with 34 year old Angkana, the officer’s wife.

She confessed that she had argued with her husband earlier in the evening. During the argument, her husband had taken out his .38 calibre revolver. Fearing he might use it in anger, she tried to wrestle the gun away from him, and it accidentally discharged, shooting him in the stomach.

Angkana explained that after the accidental shooting, her husband and their son got into the truck and drove towards Nong Chang Hospital. Following this testimony, the investigation team detained Angkana and brought her to Karung Police Station. They also notified the Huai Khot Police Station to proceed with legal actions in their jurisdiction, reported KhaoSod.
