Tragic drowning of teenager in Lampang’s Wang River

A group of 14 year old boys set off for a fishing adventure in Lampang’s Wang River but it ended in heartbreak as one tragically drowned. Despite desperate attempts to save him, his larger build proved challenging, pulling others under in the struggle to rescue him.

At 2.30pm, yesterday, April 20, Police Lieutenant Warathep Srinoy from Thoen Police Station was informed of a drowning incident in the river near Ban Wiang, Mueang Lomrad subdistrict, Thoen district. He coordinated with rescue teams from Lampang Rescue Association, Omboon Rescue, and Lomrad Municipality Rescue to search for the missing boy.

Upon arrival, the rescuers found the friends of the drowned boy in shock, who recounted that they were fishing separately in the vicinity. The boy who drowned had ventured into the middle of the river, while others stayed along the riverbank.

As he could not swim, he struggled and accidentally pulled others down with him, making it difficult for them to help, reported KhaoSod.

Rescue teams searched until they discovered the body of the 14 year old boy at the riverbed. The body was retrieved and police coordinated with a doctor for an initial examination before it was sent to a hospital. Legal proceedings were initiated, and the family was allowed to take the body for religious rites.

In similar news, two Thai teenagers tragically drowned in a canal in Suphan Buri province after entering the water with a friend to rinse their hair following a dyeing session.

On April 7, a seven year old girl ran from the Jorrakay Samphan Canal to her community for help after her two older friends, 15 year old Kate and 17 year old Kratae, vanished beneath the surface.

Locals contacted a nearby rescue foundation, prompting a response from diving volunteers representing the Samorkan Suphan Buri Foundation, the Dok Kaew Foundation, and the Jaknarai Foundation.
