Pattaya tourists use water guns to put out fire on food cart

A group of tourists attending the Wan Lai Festival, an extension of the Songkran Festival in Pattaya, helped to extinguish a fire on a food cart using their water guns.

A video capturing the remarkable moment when tourists assisted a Thai vendor in suppressing the fire on his cart was shared by Channel 7 yesterday, April 20. The incident occurred at around 8pm on the final day of the Wan Lai Festival, April 19, on Pattaya Beach Road.

The footage showed flames engulfing the food cart of a snack vendor, prompting panic among nearby stallholders. Fortunately, quick-thinking revellers turned their water guns on the fire and doused it. Their efforts proved successful, as the fire was quickly extinguished.

Tourists in the crowd were heard cheering in appreciation of the prompt and heroic action. While reporting on the incident, Channel 7 journalists remarked:

“This is the first time I’ve seen the benefits of carrying a gun in public, but it should be a water gun like this.”

A nearby fruit vendor, whose stall was close to the scene, was the first to notice the fire. He told the media that he saw flames emerging from the stove, prompting him to remove a pot of boiling water and shut off the gas valve.

The food cart owner stated that the blaze may have been caused by heat accumulation from extended cooking. Sales had been strong that day, and the vendor had continued cooking to meet customer demand.

The extended Songkran Festival celebration in Chon Buri has now concluded. However, those wishing to continue the festivities can attend the Wan Lai Phra Pradaeng in Samut Prakan province, near Bangkok, from 25 to 27 April.

The main venue will be Phlaeng Faifa Fort in the Phra Pradaeng district. The event will feature merit-making, parades, beauty pageants, traditional Mon cultural activities, and, of course, water splashing.
