IQAir released a real-time report on air quality in Thailand highlighting the top 10 areas with the highest levels of PM 2.5 pollution, a fine particulate matter known to affect health.

As of 8.49am, today, February 4, these areas were identified as having air quality levels that pose health risks, marked in red for their severity.

The list of the most polluted cities in Thailand includes: Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya Municipality in Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya with a US AQI of 168, Pathum Thani in Pathum Thani province at 165, Lam Luk Ka at 162, Thanyaburi at 158, Khlong Luang at 157, Bang Sao Thong in Samut Prakan province at 156, Uttaradit in Uttaradit province at 154, Khlong 1 in Pathum Thani province at 153, Chiang Rai at 152, and Mae Mo in Lampang province also at 152.

These findings from IQAir underscore the significant air quality issues in these regions, where pollution levels exceed standard limits and have tangible health effects.

The detailed data serves as a crucial alert to residents and relevant officials to address and mitigate air pollution’s impact on public health, reported KhaoSod.

Yesterday, 57 of Thailand’s 77 provinces reported dangerous levels of ultrafine dust pollution, according to the Geo-Informatics and Space Technology Development Agency (GISTDA).

Thirteen provinces recorded hazardous PM2.5 levels, with Nong Bua Lam Phu experiencing the highest concentration at 99.1 microgrammes per cubic metre over the past 24 hours.

Other provinces with severe pollution included Sisaket (92.1µg/m³), Ubon Ratchathani (88.8), Kalasin (86.2), Surin (84.4), and Buriram (83.6). Bangkok and Saraburi both recorded 75.5µg/m³, well above the government’s safe threshold of 37.5µg/m³.

Meanwhile, 20 provinces, mainly in the north and south, enjoyed safe air quality. Sixteen provinces reported moderate PM2.5 levels between 27 and 36.5µg/m³, including Pattani, Yala, Satun, Narathiwat, Phuket, Songkhla, and Chiang Rai.

Four provinces, Krabi, Lamphun, Chiang Mai, and Mae Hong Son, recorded good air quality, with PM2.5 levels as low as 16.5µg/m³ in Mae Hong Son.

With worsening air pollution affecting much of the country, government officials are urging residents in high-risk areas to take precautions and limit outdoor exposure.
