The Expressway Authority of Thailand (EXAT) is gearing up to launch public-private partnerships (PPPs) next year for the ambitious 20-billion-baht Srinakarin-Suvarnabhumi Airport expressway project. With an anticipated opening in 2030, this project is poised to streamline access to the bustling Suvarnabhumi Airport, enhancing the travel experience for both locals and tourists alike.

EXAT Deputy Governor Katpachon Udomthampakdee, recently led the third public hearing on the project.

“EXAT will gather all the necessary information after receiving opinions from all sectors, enabling us to draft the project details.”

This drafting process is expected to span three to four months, after which the project will be finalised.

The budget earmarked for the project stands at 20.7 billion baht, covering construction, design, supervision, and environmental considerations. With a net present value of 6.1 billion baht and an impressive economic internal rate of return (EIRR) of 14.35%, well above the standard EIRR of 12%, the project is deemed economically viable.

The expressway will run parallel to Inter-City Motorway No.7, featuring an 8.95-kilometre elevated section with four traffic lanes at the Srinakarin Interchange.

Notably, entry and exit points will be strategically placed at the Srinakarin Interchange, along the road connected to Suvarnabhumi Airport, and near King Mongkut’s Institute of Technology Lat Krabang.

EXAT plans to implement both manual and electronic toll collection systems for optimal efficiency.

The agency aims to complete its feasibility study within the year, followed by an environmental impact assessment report, ensuring the project aligns with sustainable practices, reported Bangkok Post.

In related news, Bangkok’s new tollgate on the Chalerm Maha Nakhon Expressway in Pathum Wan district has officially opened, promising to improve the city’s traffic flow—but not without sparking a heated debate.

EXAT announced that the new Lumpini entrance will provide a crucial link from the Chalerm Maha Nakhon Expressway to Wireless Road. This strategic shortcut is set to alleviate the notorious congestion at the Rama IV gate.
