Thailand sees 87% surge in hotel bookings this December
Thailand is gaining recognition as a premier travel destination, particularly during December, as indicated by recent statistics from SiteMinder, a renowned global hotel revenue management platform. This December has witnessed an impressive 87% in hotel bookings made by international tourists, marking an increase from last year’s 84% during the same period.
Deputy government spokesperson Sasikarn Wattanachun highlighted the surge in hotel reservations throughout the Christmas season, reporting an 18% rise in bookings between December 21 and 25 compared to the previous year. This data underlines Thailand’s enduring appeal as a festive destination on the global stage.
Several key metrics illustrate the upward trend in Thailand’s tourism sector. The average daily rate for hotel rooms experienced a significant increase of 16%, jumping from 7,149 baht to 8,313 baht, which surpasses the global average.
Additionally, the average length of stay for tourists slightly expanded by 5%, moving from 2.63 days to 2.76 days. The advance booking time also saw a 10% rise, extending from 85 days to 93 days.
Sasikarn credited Thailand’s popularity during the festive season to its inviting climate, welcoming locals, and distinctive cultural attractions. Even with its predominantly Buddhist culture, Thailand embraces the Christmas spirit, attracting numerous international visitors.
Top destinations such as Bangkok, Chiang Mai, and Phuket continue to draw tourists eager to partake in Christmas celebrations. This notable increase in tourism offers a promising opportunity for hotel operators to enhance their revenues and reinforces Thailand’s reputation as a leading holiday hotspot, reported The Pattaya News.
