A stray bullet struck a Thai woman in the chest while she was lying in her bedroom at a house in the southern province of Phang Nga on February 14. Police are still unable to identify the gunman.

The victim shared her story with the Facebook news page Drama-addict yesterday, February 17. The incident reportedly took place at the house in the Khao Lak area of Phang Nga province on Valentine’s Day.

Fortunately, the victim only suffered a minor injury. She sustained a bruise on her chest the size of a bullet. She noticed a hole in the ceiling of her bedroom as well as in the roof, indicating that the stray bullet had fallen onto her home and pierced through the hard, solid structure before hitting her.

Police officers investigated the scene yesterday, February 14, to trace the bullet’s trajectory to identify the gunman. The development on the investigation has not yet been reported.

According to the Act on Firearms, Ammunition, Explosives, Fireworks, and Imitation Firearms, firing a gun into the air is punishable by up to five years’ imprisonment, a fine of up to 10,000 baht, or both.

Since the victim sustained an injury, the gunman could also be charged under Section 390 of the Criminal Law for acting recklessly and causing harm. The penalty for this offence is up to one month’s imprisonment, a fine of up to 10,000 baht, or both.

A Thai woman commented on Drama-addict’s post, saying she had experienced a similar incident a few days earlier. A stray bullet pierced the roof of her home and landed in a storage room. Fortunately, no one was present in the room at the time.

A Thai man urged the police to take the case seriously to prevent the gunman from repeating their actions. He recounted a similar experience 20 years ago when a stray bullet hit his property. He claimed the police did not give his case sufficient attention, allowing the perpetrator to remain at large.

It is believed the gunman fired the shot to celebrate Valentine’s Day, similar to an incident on Halloween last year. In that case, a Thai woman in Phuket was struck by a stray bullet while speaking on the phone outside her home.

In another incident, a stray bullet hit a 70 year old diabetic man in the central province of Chachoengsao during the Songkran Festival in April last year.
