Thailand’s national police chief, Police General Kitrat Panphet, has ordered officers nationwide to monitor foreign nationals amid concerns over public order and safety.

The directive, issued yesterday, February 17, cites reports of disruptive behaviour that could disturb social order, violate public morals, or harm Thailand’s reputation. It was sent to all police divisions, including the Metropolitan Police, Provincial Police Regions 1 to 9, Immigration Police, Tourist Police, and Border Patrol Police.

“Officers must prioritise public safety and take appropriate legal action against violators.”

One key incident prompting the crackdown occurred in Pai, Mae Hong Son, where several businesses put up signs refusing service to Israeli nationals on February 8. The move followed reports of Israeli tourists verbally abusing medical staff and threatening property damage at Pai Hospital.

A viral Facebook video also showed intoxicated foreigners harassing two female restaurant owners, leaving them in fear.

Kitrat has ordered Mae Hong Son police to investigate and report back within seven days. Police remain committed to keeping Thailand safe and welcoming for all, reported The Nation.

In similar news, a wild street brawl involving foreign tourists outside Cafe del Mar in Kamala has gone viral, sparking fresh debate over the quality of visitors Phuket is attracting.

The 1-minute, 37-second clip, shared by the โหดจัง จังหวัดภูเก็ต Facebook page on February 14, shows a chaotic scene as intoxicated tourists throw punches while shocked onlookers watch.

The fight began outside the popular beach club before spilling into the street, quickly escalating into a violent melee. One man was seen attempting to smash a bottle over another’s head, while others exchanged blows and kicks.

In a particularly disturbing moment, a man lying on the ground was repeatedly kicked, despite efforts by bystanders, including two women, to intervene.

In another incident, a video surfaced showing two foreign tourists engaging in a Muay Thai-inspired brawl on Patong’s Bangla Road, one of Phuket’s most renowned nightlife areas. The fight drew a crowd of spectators who cheered as the confrontation unfolded.
