The Royal Thai Police discovered the body of a Thai man in a pond in Sattahip district, Chon Buri on Wednesday. Sattahip police, along with rescue workers from the Sawang Rojanatham Sathan Foundation, responded to the report around noon, on May 29.

At the scene, officials identified the deceased as 48 year old Pongthep Thongho, who was found lying face down in the water, dressed in a purple polo shirt and black shorts. Police reported no signs of physical assault on the body. The remains were taken to Sattahip Hospital for an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.

Narisphong Naksophon, the deceased’s 37 year old nephew, discovered the body and was visibly distressed. Narisphong confirmed that his uncle suffered from mental illness and helped his parents sell congee at a local market daily. On the night of May 27 around 9pm, Pongthep left the shop on a pink bicycle and did not return.

Narisphong reviewed CCTV footage in the area to track his uncle’s movements. The footage showed Pongthep heading towards Naim Sai Beach in Saemsan before losing track of him, reported Pattaya News.

The family searched the area until they found his body in the pond. They suspect that Pongthep’s mental illness might have led him to wander into the pond and drown.
