Pattaya mayor gets to root of the matter: Plants for a greener future

Pattaya Mayor Poramase Ngampiches led a tree-planting ceremony to celebrate Thai National Tree Day, held as part of a wider initiative to move Pattaya towards a low-carbon city.

The event, held yesterday, May 30, was a city-wide affair, consisting of attendees from members of the Pattaya City Council, citizens, and volunteers.

The city announced that Pattaya has been chosen by the National Municipal League of Thailand and the European Union as one of 15 learning centres for the initiative, titled Thai Municipality Moves Towards Low Carbon City.

This project aims to involve government agencies, educational institutions, businesses, communities, citizens, and tourists to rehabilitate Pattaya’s natural resources and environment, ultimately making it a more sustainable city.

A total of 200 Yellow Star trees were planted in public areas around Pattaya during the event. Ninety trees found new homes at the Pattaya Klang public park, with the remaining trees scheduled to be planted at Khao Phra Yai soon.

The choice of the Yellow Star tree, known for its robustness and beauty, further highlights the city’s dedication to creating a pleasant and sustainable urban environment.

Poramase highlighted the significance of the Pattaya Klang Intersection public park, describing it as one of the city’s essential green spaces. He emphasised its role as a relaxing spot for families and urged the public to keep the park clean by properly disposing of waste.
